1. Open a photo
Press the keyboard keys Ctrl+O. In the Open dialog box, select your photo then click the button Open.

2. Unlock the background layer.
Double click on the background layer to unlock it so the photo can be edited.

3. Create a new layer for the canvas color, fill it with white then drag it into position bottom. Click the Create New Layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette. Press the letter D key on the keyboard to reset the foreground/background color to default. Fill Layer 1 with white/background color by pressing the Ctrl keyboard key +backspace. Click on Layer 1 then drag it to the bottom position.

4. Create a definition of our photo pattern.
Click the Pattern Stamp Tool (S) icon in the Tool Palette. Next select Edit-Define Pattern... Enter a name then click the OK button. In the Options Bar, click the pattern picker drop down menu then select the pattern you just created.

5. Reduce the Opacity of Layer 0 to 20%.
Click on layer 0 (top layer) then change the opacity to 20%.

6. Create a new layer, transparent layer.
Click the Create New Layer icon at the bottom of the layers palette.

7. Select the Flat Point Medium Stiff Brush in the Brush Preset Picker located in Options Bar. In the options bar, don't check Impressionist.

8. Apply Brush to your photo.
With Layer 2 active (top layer), start sweeping your brush to reveal details in the photo. Press the [ button to reduce the brush size and the ] button to enlarge it.

9. Create a detailed painting of the object in the photo.
Check the Impressionist checkbox in the Option Bar, then create a detailed painting on the photo. Please set the brush size according to your needs.

10. Create a new layer for the Canvas Effect.
Create a new layer by clicking the create new layer icon or by selecting the Layer-New menu Layers. Click the drop down pattern picker then click on the grinder-shaped icon to add new pattern. In the sub menu that appears, select Artist Brushes Canvas then click the Append button. With Layer 3 active, select the Edit-Fill menu. The Use column is filled in with Pattern then from drop down the pattern menu select the Yankee Canvas pattern. Click OK button.

11. Set Layer 3 with opacity to 8% and blend mode darken.
