In this interview, Winfried Dressler, a member of the Deep Philosophy group, explains to Ran Lahav what inspired him in the essay “Why do we write?” by the 20th century Spanish philosopher Maria Zambrano.

For Zambrano, the meaning of writing is very different from that of speaking. Speaking is a continuous flow of words, but writing frees us from the avalanche of speaking and gives us a space for reflection.

Maria Zambrano (1904-1991) was a Spanish philosopher whose philosophy was highly poetic. After the Spanish Civil War, she went into exile in Mexico and other places. She returned to Spain only in the 1980s, where she received awards and recognition.
