Oriental Hornet Calling Sound
The Oriental hornet (Vespa orientalis) is a social insect of the Vespidae family. It is found in Southwest Asia, Northeast Africa, Madagascar (with no recent sightings), the Middle East, Central Asia, and parts of Southern Europe. Introduced by humans, it has also been observed in distant locations such as Mexico and Chile. Oriental hornets live in seasonal colonies structured around a queen-led caste system. They build underground nests and communicate through vibrations. Their exoskeleton features a yellow stripe that can absorb sunlight, potentially aiding in energy for digging. Adults consume nectar, fruits, and hunt insects and animal proteins to nourish their young. Being scavengers, they might inadvertently spread disease after consuming infected plants. Known for raiding honey bee colonies for honey and proteins, Oriental hornets are a major threat to bees. Their stings are notably painful to humans, and some people have allergic reactions to them.
