Software Defined Radio, continues to gain popularity, with some enthusiast claiming they can listen to their microwave ovens and even translate what the device is saying. Anything that generates electronic signals, like the wireless door bell, car alarms and thermostats can be easily hacked now days.
This technology is moving rapidly. It's scary for some but also fascinating for others.
Point a UHF bean antenna towards any device, intercept it, find it frequency and you can not only hear it but also see their spectrum and waterfalls display and perhap alter their electronic signals.
There are a great number of potentially vulnerable wireless devices out there that can be hacked. .
A new SDR program named "SDR Console" can allow one to take control and monitor a computer thousand of miles away. Change it frequency and choose what you want to listen. Obviously, that's nothing new for electronic buffs. HDSDR, another definition denoting this revolutionary technology it's here to stay. One popular device that's gaining popularity is the SDRPLAY. With this fairly inexpensive device you can monitor frequencies from 1 Khz of to 2 Ghz without any adapters. Hackers through reversed engineering and a few modifications with linux are having a fun peaking into places they're never been before or, they shouldn't.
Hey, you can also use it for Radio Astronomy if you connected it to the right Antenna.
In short, anything wireless can be decoded.
On this video, we are listening to some radio transmissions from a computer located in Spain. I personally use a Raspberry Pi Linux computer and 2 Softrock transceiver built by Tony Park. Great stuff to play with and to get budding scientists off to a fresh start into a world of communication.
