Equations in Slope-Intercept have the form 𝑦=𝑚𝑥+𝑏, where 𝑚 is the slope (or rate) and 𝑏 is the 𝑦-intercept (0,𝑏) (or start amount). The 𝑥 is the independent variable and 𝑦 is the dependent variable.
If you can easily identify the exact 𝑦-intercept of a line on a graph: replace the 𝑚 with the value for the slope (rise over run) and replace the 𝑏 with the value of the 𝑦-intercept.
If you know the a point and 𝑦-intercept of a linear function, to write the equation: replace the 𝑏 with the value of the 𝑦-intercept (0,𝑏) and replace the 𝑚 with the value for the slope (rise over run).
If you know the start amount and another piece of information of a linear function with a constant rate, to write the equation: replace the 𝑚 with the value of the rate (rise over run) and replace the 𝑏 with the value of the start amount.
