Survival Snow Shelter! -Building a quinzhee in Canada's Far North -
For some time now, we've wanted to build a snow shelter on the marsh close to our yurt in Whitehorse, Yukon. With an abundance of snow this winter, it was an ideal time for quinzhee building. Our shelter needed to be big enough for us (tNt) and our big Malamute cross dog, Tenshi. We made a mound and waited twenty-four hours for the snow to solidify to make sure the structure was safe. After a day of digging, we closed our excavation hole and looked forward to spending a night in our new dwelling. Stay tuned for our next episode, "Overnight Camping in the Quinzhee! : )
