Driver’s licenses will look a lot different in two years when people start switching to Real IDs. They’re a new Homeland Security requirement that will replace your old ID to do things like get through airport security or into federal buildings. California will start offering the Real ID in January, but DMV spokesman Marty Greenstein says there’s no reason to rush.
Real IDs won’t be a mandatory requirement until October of 2020.
