▬▬▬▬ Video Transcript ▬▬▬▬

Hey there! I’m Matt, and today I'm going to show you how to add page numbers to your Apple Pages document.

I've got a sample document open with some dummy text, just to illustrate the process. When you first open Apple Pages, you might not see the toolbar right away.

You might have the format or document options open, but the one we need to focus on is the document option located in the top right corner. Once you click on "Document," you'll see several options pop up.

To add page numbers, you need to work with the header and footer settings. The header is at the top of the page, while the footer is at the bottom.

Depending on where you want your page numbers to appear, you’ll need to enable either the header or footer. You can also adjust the size of these areas by changing the figures in the settings.

If you don't have the header and footer enabled, you won’t see any boxes when you hover over the top or bottom of the page. Once you select them, you'll see the boxes appear.

If you want your page numbers in the header, just select that option; if you prefer them in the footer, select that instead. Now, I’ll show you how to set up both.

Generally, you’ll want to choose one or the other, but for demonstration, I’ll enable both. As I hover over the boxes, I can click into one and choose where to insert the page number—whether it’s in the middle, left, or right.

When you click on "Insert Page Number," you’ll have a couple of options. You can choose to display just the page number for the current page or for the entire document.

For example, if I want to add a page number at the top, I can easily do that. However, I noticed that it doesn’t let me add a page number in both the header and footer simultaneously.

It seems you can only have it in one of those areas. So, if you want the page number at the bottom, you can remove it from the header.

In summary, adding page numbers in Apple Pages is straightforward. Just select whether you want them in the header or footer, and then insert the page number accordingly.
