So you've decided to create a YouTube channel. You've set up the channel, and you've come up with a name and a logo. Maybe you've even made a few videos already and posted them, and now you're sitting in front of your camera, and you're wondering — now what?
Hopefully, you've created a channel around something that you're really skilled at, something you have a lot of knowledge about or experience in, so you should be able to come up with a list of topics pretty easily. Grab a piece of paper, and write down every question your friends ask you. When it comes to your expertise, what are the questions they're asking you specifically? Those questions are the perfect titles for your YouTube videos.
Let's say that you're a guitar enthusiast and creating your channel all around everything you want to know about guitars. Someone might come to you and say, "Hey, I'm looking to buy my first guitar. What should I look for?" What are the bullet points of the things that you would tell them? What brands to avoid? What brands are particularly good? What's a good price? The reason that people come to you with those questions is that they value your input. So you're just expanding your reach to everyone on the internet, everyone on YouTube.
The other thing you can think about is... within your niche, what secret tips and tricks do you share with friends, colleagues, and family members that no one else might know? The things that are second nature for you that you do all the time, a beginner might not know how to do. So your video would be a great resource for them when they search for, say, "how to restring a guitar," yours will come up. The more specific you can get, the better because there are probably a lot of channels out there talking about the same things that you are, but there might be an aspect of it that nobody's talking about.
What things do you know that you don't see being represented out there? There's a knowledge gap for that thing if you can't find the answer to it when you search. So why not put it out there? And then, when people are searching for that, they find your channel, and that's how you grow.
As you create content and people start watching your content, they will see you as an expert. And then they're going to put questions in the comments for you to answer because they're like, "oh, this person knows a lot about this particular subject. I wonder if they know the answer to my question," and they'll put it in there. And those are the perfect questions to answer for your next videos. Answering specific questions is a really, really great way to grow on YouTube.
So make that list. Think about all the different things you have expertise on, tips, tricks, little-known secrets, and things that your friends and family come to you for. Write all those down. Plan them all out. And you can get 10 to 20 videos just from that list.
