Trese is a very cool Filipino komik series, and it's a very cool animated series on Netflix.
The comic is written by Budjette Tan. The artist is Kajo Baldisimo. It's about Alexandra Trese, a detective who deals with supernatural crimes.
The first issue of Trese was published on October 22nd, 2005. The first two volumes focused on Manila's urban legends. The first three volumes contain extra material, such as journal entries by Alexandra's grandfather Alexander. These entries provide more detail and lore about each case.
A volume called Trese: Tales from the Diabolical contains stories that were published online in 2005.
Alexandra is supported by two magical creatures called Crispin and Basilio (the Kambal).
Alexandra and the Kambal have also appeared in Skyworld and Agents of Ambush.
For Batman Day 2016, a story was created where Trese teams up with Batman and Wolverine to fight The Hand and Aswangs.
The French editions of Trese are published by Les Editions Delcourt. In Italy, the publisher is Star Comics. In Germany, the publisher is Dantes Verlag.
In The United States, Trese is published in Oregon, by Ablaze.
In the late 60's, the great Tony DeZuniga came from The Philippines to The United States to work in comics. He co-created Jonah Hex and Black Orchid.
Tony told DC Comics that there were tons of great artists in The Philippines. So, In 1971, some DC editors flew over to the island nation. They recruited great artists such as Ernie Chan (sometimes he called himself Ernie Chua), Alfredo Alcala, Alex Nino, Nestor Redondo, Gerry Talaoc, Romeo Tanghal, and others. This is sometimes playfully called the 1970's "Filipino Invasion of DC Comics."
Ernie Chan worked on many issues of Conan, Batman, House of Mystery, Ghosts, The Unexpected, Doctor Strange, and other series. He was DC Comics' primary cover artist from 1975 to 1977.
