Virtual Tour: All Utopias Fell
Designed by @michaeloatmanartist , The Shining is a gleaming, re-purposed Airstream trailer filled with more curiosities than the eye can keep up with. Oatman’s crash-landed capsule — part of “all utopias fell,” a seasonal work accessible via The Boiler House — immerses visitors in a 1970s style caravan complete with large parachutes, video art, stained glass windows and active solar panels. The installation emerged from the artist’s research into the history of solar energy and the Sprague Electric Company, which occupied the museum campus from 1942 to 1986. Evoking pulp aeronauts such as Buck Rogers and the stories of adventure novelists like Jules Verne, Oatman’s installation inspires exploratory wonder in all who visit.
