"Here we are, 100 years after the Harlem Renaissance — how do you make community in the 21st century?"
Jazz pianist, composer and artist Jason Moran is interested in intersections - between live music and lived experience, sculpture and architecture, pigments and jazz licks. This Friday, Moran's work will go on view in Black Stars: Writing in the Dark, a solo exhibition which will exhibit, for the first time, more than 40 unframed audio-visual impressions that capture the movement of Moran's pigment-covered fingers across paper laid flat on piano keys. Works from Moran's STAGED series — a suite of sculptural installations that reconstruct and reimagine iconic interiors throughout jazz history — will also be on view. On January 7, we'll be celebrating Moran and his fellow Building 6 artists at a special Member Celebration — head to the link in our bio for more information!
