The Butt of Lewis
The northern-most point of the Outer Hebrides is a lighthouse at the north tip of the Isle of Lewis. We were there on a relatively calm day - though the only sound on the video is the never-ending wind - but it must be quite dramatic when a gale is blowing and the wild Atlantic smashes against the jagged cliffs.
For afficionados of the British "Shipping Forecast", the Butt of Lewis is regularly mentioned, so now you can picture it.
The film begins at the junction where you turn left for the lighthouse and then drives over the relatively flat and featureless north of Lewis until we reach the lighthouse. There we view the cliffs down to the sea and the abundant bird life.
The film ends with a sweep along the eastern horizon, where the mountains of mainland Scotland crowd along the shore. In the final shot the far distant Orkneys can be seen.
