Spume on Prestatyn Beach
Spume, or "sea foam", is caused by the action of wind and wave on dissolved organic matter, often the remains of an algal bloom, but the proximity of Prestatyn to Liverpool's antiquated sewage system suggests the possibility of a less savoury origin!
Whatever the source, it was fascinating to watch the 26mph wind rip the banks of spume into fragments and send them scudding across the beach and up the steps of the sea wall. The only sound on the video, I'm afraid, is wind noise in the microphone, so I've turned it down and you may want to turn it right down.
