Wolbórz is a charming town located in central Poland in the Łódź Voivodeship. The name Wolbórz probably comes from the word Woj/e/bor - fighting soldiers. The very first mention of Wolbórz is found as early as 1065.

A fortress appeared here, which became the residence of the governor of the Lęczyckie Voivodeship. The famous campaign against the Teutonic Knights at Grunwald under the leadership of King Wladyslaw Jagiełło started from here. It was also here that the King was offered the Czech crown. On May 16, 1671, almost the entire town was burned by lightning. The castle was burnt in 1766 and was never rebuilt.
Instead, in 1773 the Kujavian Bishops' Palace - a palace and park complex - appeared. It belongs to the most magnificent aristocratic residences in Poland of the late Baroque period. The complex consists of a palace, two outbuildings, farm premises, as well as the front yard and the palace park. The main building used to be connected with side wings by semi-circular colonnade galleries.
After World War II, a secondary school was opened in the palace. And since September 1, 1967, the Technical School was transformed into a complex of agricultural schools, the Center of additional education.
How interesting it must be to study in such a historic palace building! Listening to a lecture, you can easily imagine yourself as the owner of this palace complex. And during recess, you can enjoy such beautiful nature and the lake. Would you like to study at the palace?
In 1969, the palace and its surroundings were used to film most scenes of the movie "The Maiden's Plot" (Rzeczpospolita babska).
The park behind the palace is a bit like an English park. A lot of greenery. And in the center is a beautiful lake, in which a lot of water lilies bloomed. A perfect place for a picnic and relaxation.
What are those scary black caterpillars? There are thousands of them here... They look kind of scary now, but after a while these caterpillars will turn into Peacock Eye butterflies. It is a daytime butterfly of the nymphalid family. It is one of the most common butterflies in Poland. Look how beautiful they will be!
The bishops' palace together with the beautiful park and the lake create a wonderful harmony. It is absolutely not a touristy place and you can enjoy the historic architecture and nature in silence. If you'll be in the area, be sure to stop by. All the more, the complex is located near the Warsaw road.
