Today, we're taking you on a virtual tour of the exhibition "Eluding Capture: Three Artists From Central Asia." Get ready to dive into the captivating works of Saodat Ismailova, Alexander Ugay, and Gulnur Mukazhanova as they explore the concept of belonging in Central Asia through photography, textile, film, and video.

In this exhibition, these three talented artists delve into the rich history and complex identity of Central Asia, which includes countries like Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan. Throughout time, this region has been shaped by Indigenous Khanates, the Russian Empire, and the Soviet Union. Drawing inspiration from the region's philosophical, literary, and artistic traditions, these artists offer contemporary interventions that honor the past while speculating on the future.

Alexander Ugay, a Kazakh-Korean artist, combines photographs and historical research to explore the impact of technology on our perception of visual information, questioning notions of labor, longing, and landscape.

Gulnur Mukazhanova, a Berlin-based artist from Kazakhstan, investigates the production, transformation, and circulation of textiles, particularly felted textiles, shedding light on their cultural significance.

Saodat Ismailova, hailing from Uzbekistan, crafts installations and films that reflect the resilience of Central Asian communities amidst political and cultural changes, offering intimate narratives that reveal their survival strategies.

Whether you’re watching from afar, or coming to our galleries, we invite you to immerse yourself in this captivating exhibition and embark on a journey of discovery.
