Indefinite Detention and Endless War are Affronts to American Values
Rep. Jerry Nadler leads the opposition to a bill which would allow for the indefinite detention--without trial--of those who are merely suspected of being associated with a terrorist group. H.R. 1540, the Defense Authorization Act of 2012, would also radically expand the scope of the war on terror beyond those responsible for the 9/11 attacks--dramatically expanding the power of the Executive to make war and detain citizens without trial. "Our liberties are too precious to be cast aside in times of peril and fear," said Nadler. In urging his colleagues to reject the bill, he urged them to "uphold one of the founding principles of this nation, that no person shall be deprived of liberty without due process of law."
