Bring Fairness to Immigration Detention
Rep. Jerry Nadler confronts waste and inefficiency in the immigration detention system. Questioning Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano, Nadler examines the practice of subjecting detainees to repeated transfers between facilities. Often, detainee's are transferred to facilities that are far from the location of their court proceedings and families. Such transfers may also be completed without properly notifying a detainee's lawyers. These transfers lead to costly airplane flights while impeding detainees' right to due process. Changing this wasteful practice would save taxpayer money while providing a measure of fairness in our immigration system.
