Dr. Kwansoo Lee: There's a lot of fuss about the difference between dentures and all-on-X, so let's talk about it. A lot of people that come in, they never even heard of all-on-X and don't know what it is, which is typically why they go for dentures. All-on-X is a procedure somewhat similar to a denture where you're placing a whole arch of teeth so you're getting a smile, but there's a big difference. All-on-X is supported by X stands for number of implants we'll be placing. It could be four or five or six implants that goes into jaw bones, and then we can go and put a full arch of teeth on top of that. You're getting an amazing spa makeover that is fixed, that you can't take off. Also, the big difference between denture and all-on-X is that one of the negative fact of wearing dentures is that, over time, what happens is that your bone structure underneath your gums starts resorbing and gets smaller and smaller. Once the bone loss is there, those bone do not grow back naturally.

Getting the all-on-X procedure, when you go to place dental implants in your bone structure, it prevents that bone from resorbing. It allows you to keep that bone structure. Denture is more of a temporary solution, whereas all-on-X procedure is a more permanent solution. Another big disadvantage of wearing dentures is that when you're in public, you're speaking and you're eating, it can have potential to fall out. It becomes a very embarrassing moment for that person. With all-on-X, you'll never have those moments in public, where you're worried about your teeth falling out while you're eating or while you're talking to somebody.

For people out there that are looking for a different options. There's a procedure call overdentures. We place two or for dental implants and with the overdenture, as a removal device that clicks in, when you put it in, it's still very rigid. It dramatically improves your chewing function. In terms of maintenance, it's removable so you can pop it off. You can clean it very easily and you can pop it right back in. It's a great benefit to our patients.

If you're suffering from missing tooth or missing teeth and you want to hear different options to improve your smile and your function, please give us a call. We offer complimentary consultation. We would love to have a chat with you and figure out what the best option is for you.
