Dr. Kwansoo Lee: When patients walk in and wanting to make a smile makeover, it depends on what the patient needs and wants are, we have different options available. I'm going to tell you the four most popular types of cosmetic procedures done here at the Pacific Northwest Dental Center.
Number one is going to be our teeth whitening. For patients that want teeth whitening, we go ahead and make a digital impression and we make special trace that you'll be wearing every night when you sleep. On second phase, we come in and then we do in-office whitening for 60 to 90 minutes. For patients that have stained teeth, it's a great procedure for them to make a dramatic change their smile.
The second most popular type of smile maker procedure is orthodontics. When patients come in, they have gaps on their teeth or their crowded teeth, getting orthodontic work is a great way to go ahead and improve your smile. There are two routes you can take. You can take the traditional route of brackets and wire, and another route is with clear aligners. Primarily, for adults, we do recommend using clear aligners because using clear aligner system is less of a hassle. You can go and take it off, brush your teeth, and put it right back in. Actually, you'd come in for last visits.
The third most popular type of smile makeover procedure we do is veneers. You get to choose the color and the shape you want. We'll do a preliminary workout, so that you get to see what the smile will look like and see if you're happy with that. Proper candidates for veneers are patients who have chipped teeth, stained teeth, misaligned teeth, and who wants the most expedient way to go and get the treatment done. Sometimes, there are cases where if a patient wants the veneers, but because they got stained teeth and they got chipped teeth, then they might require orthodontic treatment first in order to go ahead and put the teeth in a proper position so you get the best result that you want.
The fourth most popular smile makeover procedure we do is dental implants. The case can vary from a patient that's missing a single tooth in the front to missing multiple teeth. The benefits of dental implants are you improve your chewing function. You can go and eat what you want. At the same time, when you have implants, it prevents bone loss around the implant. If you're missing teeth for a while, your bone volume in that missing teeth area starts resorbing. You have an implant there, it programs your body to keep that bone level where they are. Also, at the same time, but not the least, it improves your smile and your aesthetics.
