If you want to schedule a post for publishing later, this is exactly how you do it.
I'm right here in one of my WordPress sites, on the dashboard. To create a new post, we go to Posts on the sidebar and click on Add New Post.
This will open up a new post. My WordPress is a little sluggish on this site because there’s a lot going on, but I’ll quickly add some demo content just to show you how it works.
I’ve added a title and some content, and I’m using the Classic Editor here, but this works exactly the same way in Gutenberg.
Rather than clicking Publish, which would make the post live on your site immediately, we have other options.
We can Save Draft, which will keep the post in the backend so you can continue editing later. We can also Preview the post to see how it looks before publishing.
Now, to schedule a post, instead of publishing immediately, click on Edit next to "Publish immediately."
Here, we can select a date and time for the post to go live.
For example, today is January 22, 2025, but if I want to schedule it for February 2, 2025, at 9:00 AM, I simply enter that date and time.
This timing will follow the time zone settings in your WordPress site, whether it's set to GMT, US time, or another time zone.
Once I’ve set the date and time, I click OK, and you’ll notice that the Publish button has now changed to Schedule.
Clicking Schedule will confirm the date and time, and the post will be set to publish automatically at that time.
Now, once the post is scheduled, we can check it by clicking on All Posts in the sidebar.
If you've never scheduled a post before, you’ll now see a new Scheduled section in your post management area.
Under All Posts, you’ll see different tabs:
Published – These are posts already live on your site.
Scheduled – This contains all posts that are set to publish at a later time.
Drafts – Posts that are saved but not yet published or scheduled.
Once a post is scheduled, you’ll see it listed under Scheduled along with its category, author (if multiple users are on the site), and scheduled date and time.
At any point, you can open the scheduled post to edit it, change the publish date, or even publish it immediately.
