Hey, it's Matt here, and today I'm walking you through how to snag a LinkedIn API key. If you haven't already, drop me a follow on LinkedIn at Matt Crawford.
Now, if you're diving into creating an app or need that key for any integration, you're in the right spot. First things first, head over to the LinkedIn developer portal.
You'll find it at linkedin.com/developers. Don't worry; I'll drop the link in the description for easy access.
Once you're there, the goal is to create an app. You'll need to come up with an app name and then link it to a LinkedIn page.
For instance, if I were doing this, I'd link it to my Filmmaking Lifestyle company page. Next up, you have the option to add a privacy policy URL for your app.
It's not mandatory, but it's good to have. Then, it's logo time.
You'll need to upload one that's at least 100px. After that, you'll sign off on a legal agreement to abide by LinkedIn's terms of service and hit 'create app'.
Let me show you an example with an app I've prepped earlier, the Matt app. Oddly enough, LinkedIn insists on having a logo, so make sure you don't skip that part.
Once your app is up and running, you'll want to navigate to the 'Auth' section to find your API key, which is essentially the client ID and the primary client secret. You can generate a new one if needed, but remember, this is just for demo purposes.
So, whether you need the primary client secret or the client ID, both serve as your API key. Just copy and paste whichever you need.
And that's pretty much it! You've got your LinkedIn API key.
