Coyote's and Cranes
On my way to work in Iowa I stopped and spent the day at Loess Bluffs Nat'l Wildlife Refuge near Mound City Missouri. My original plan was to camp out under a Ghillie blanket by the water and just photo whatever came by, but I didn't account for the total lack of water. The August heat transformed the wetland into a sea of Lily pads and Lotus flowers and there couldn't have been but a few inches of water anywhere. So I drove through the park and hoped to get lucky since I had already made the trip. I added 3 birds to my life-list, the Glossy Ibis, White Ibis and the Least Bittern, then I got closer to Sand Hill Cranes than ever before, but I was disappointed of a photograph because of the angle and heat distortion. I almost left the park without a single good photograph when at the last minute a beautiful female Coyote and her pup decided to do some hunting right in front of me.
