Hamas is an Islamic Palestinian organization.The Sunni organization is internationally classified as Radical Islamic and as terrorist.Among others, Sheikh Ahmad Yasin founded Hamas in 1987 from a part of the Muslim Brotherhood.The organization consists of the paramilitary Kassam Brigades, an aid organization, and a political party. Hamas does not recognize the existence of the Israeli state and has set itself the goal of eliminating the state of Israel by military means and establishing an Islamic state. Hamas operates in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and partly in Israel.
The Hamas emblem shows two crossed swords, the Dome of the Rock and a map of present-day Israel, including the West Bank and Gaza Strip, which it claims as Palestine in its entirety.
The image of the Dome of the Rock is framed by two Palestinian national flags.
