Madre Vieja a baccatum from parts unknown but it probably originates from southwestern Guatemala where the Madre Vieja river can be found. Madre Vieja means "old mother" in Spanish. Got the seeds from my mate Jukka from Fatalii seeds in Finland and it’s the 1st year growing it

Beautiful looking, the plants are pretty compact for a baccatum and reach around 80-90 cm in height, a great producer of pods of 5-7 cm long and a bit over 1cm in diameter. They start off green and turn Yellow once ripen

What’s it Like?
How Hot is It?

Thin walled, nice and crispy, the flavour is hard to describe, a slight sweetness then its sort of citrusy with a tang, has sort of a bitterness that isn’t bad but different, Charlotte thought it reminded her of grapefruit, flavour goes for ages. Never had a chilli with the flavour like that, excellent.

Heat hit pretty quick and mainly in the back of the throat, top back palate and its around upper mid heat, it’s a nice deep kind of burn, the burn moved forward after a while but stayed at the same heat level for ages and just cruised along, burn was still going after the break so goes for a while

Beautiful looking plant, great producer with a deep upper mid heat burn and a distinct flavour that have never had before, would make an excellent powder or even a sauce, if after something with a different flavour profile than the norm or an Aji lemon fan then this would be excellent.
