There are lot of sources which give tips to crack any interview but only a handful of them let you know what not to do in an interview. This one is one of them!
● Don't be casual. Going for an interview means not just about wearing a formal attire but being and behaving formal. Don't take your seat unless the interviewer says so. Use proper body language, maintain decency.
● Don’t miss the eye contact: Keep up eye contact with the interviewer and speak confidently.
● Don't go unprepared about what you have written in the resume: Do research about the company and its achievements as the interviewer may ask questions related to them. Those questions are scoring! If you answer them perfectly and confidently, the interviewer feels that you're much interested in joining the company.
● Don't skip the end question. Usually, in the end of the interview, the interviewer asks if there are any questions. Don't be hesitant to ask one. Do a little research about the company prior to the interview and prepare a question. Also make sure that you come up with an interesting question but not a silly one!
● Don't talk about salary: unless and until you're asked about it. If the interviewer asks for your expectations, it's fine, but you yourself should not initiate the topic as it shows that money is your first priority and it sends wrong signals to the interviewer.
● Don't speak rudely. This is the basic but important thing one needs to follow in the interview. Be calm, cool & polite with the interviewer. Also, don't be over polite as it will show your desperation for the job and it will eventually reduce your chances of being selected.
● Don't bluff. Never ever go for false prestige by saying things or describing qualities that don't make you. To possess propriety is the best thing one can do in front of the interviewer. Honesty is the best policy!.
● Don't put unconnected hobbies on your CV : It is recommended to put the hobbies which you feel like they are special and matter to you a lot. For example numismatics (coin collection),stage shows, Bibliography etc which makes sense and looks interesting to the interviewer.
● Don't disgrace your previous employer. “Why do you want to shift the company?” or “Why do you want to leave your current job?” are two questions which frequently occur in interviews. The easiest answer to them is to say negative things about the previous employer or company. Also, it is a bad answer! Because if you say so, the interviewer immediately thinks that you'll do the same with him as well in future. The best way is to be diplomatic, tactful & play safe! .
