IceCube is a neutrino telescope buried in the ice of the South Pole. In Sept. 2017 IceCube detected its first extragalactic neutrino, which is thought to have originated from the blazar TXS 0506+056 that is 5.7 billion light-years from Earth. This model uses data from IceCube to both define the detector characteristics and the visual representation of the event. This is a screen-grab movie of a Uniview module that I created for the Adler Planetarium's Kavli Lecture series.
