Early Venus Visualized
It is possible Venus had liquid water on its surface and a thinner atmosphere shortly after our Solar System formed. This visualization imagines Venus at this early stage and follows it through billions of years in time until today. Alongside Venus is the Sun, which also changes over time. During these billions of years, Venus went through a runaway greenhouse event that boiled off all of it's water and deposited that water vapor it into it's atmosphere. This change to the atmosphere is visualized as increasing redness. Today Venus has no liquid water and the surface is hot enough to melt lead. The cosmic history of Venus provides a cautionary tale for Earth.
