Kilonova GW170817 Visualized (vertical)
In Aug. 2017, LIGO/Virgo observed their first neutron-star + neutron-star merger (GW170817), which led to a kilonova. This visualization follows the neutron stars from a short duration before merger, through the merger, and includes the visible kilonova and the gamma-ray burst. This is a screen-grab movie of a Uniview module that Jeffrey SubbaRao and I created for the Adler Planetarium's Kavli Fulldome Lecture series.
