SCAN2FX Depth Fixer: Automatically fill holes in point clouds
SCAN2FX Depth Fixer offers a variety of tools for fixing up point clouds, including filling holes in point clouds, exporting and modifying depth maps, importing meshes as point clouds, modifying the coloring of point clouds, and more.
In this video, we will focus on SCAN2FX Depth Fixer’s camera-based automatic hole filling.
Here you see holes in our point cloud. These areas were in the “shadow.” That means the scanner could not see those areas from the scan positions. And, so, they are missing in the point cloud.
We position the camera to have a good view of the holes.
We open the SCAN2FX Depth Fixer menu in FARO Scene and select “Auto-Fill Holes based on Current Camera.” SCAN2FX automatically filled in the missing points. We also have a subscription to SCAN2FX Texture, so the points got automatically colorized for us, resulting in a seamless point cloud.
The fill points can also be selected as a separate scan through the menu on the left.
We can now fill other holes the same way by re-positioning the camera.
