Night scenes with glowing lights are some of my favorite things to paint - there's something about that contrast between dark and light that just hits different. Today we're painting a castle at night with glowing windows, and it's way more approachable than it looks.

The key to making this work is nailing those glowing lights against the dark sky and castle. Get that contrast right, and the whole thing just comes alive.

In this tutorial, I'm walking you through:

Creating a moody night sky that makes your castle glow stand out
How to paint glowing windows and warm light that actually looks like it's shining
Building a castle silhouette that reads clearly against the dark background
Balancing dark values with bright, glowing highlights for maximum impact
Why night scenes are actually easier than you think (and super satisfying!)

This is one of those paintings where the drama does a lot of the heavy lifting for you. Dark backgrounds are forgiving, and those pops of light? They make everything look intentional and magical. If you've never tried a night scene before, this is a solid place to start.
