Lighthouses are classic for a reason - add a stormy sky and some crashing waves, and you've got yourself a painting with serious drama. Today we're putting all three elements together: a lighthouse on a cliff, an angry sky, and waves doing their thing below.

This one's got movement, mood, and a lot of texture happening. The cool thing about storm scenes is they're actually really forgiving - a little chaos works in your favor.

In this tutorial, I'm walking you through:

Creating a dramatic stormy sky with movement and atmosphere
Painting a lighthouse perched on a cliff that anchors the whole composition
How to paint crashing waves that actually look dynamic and powerful
Balancing the three main elements - sky, cliff, and water - so they work together
Why stormy scenes are more forgiving than calm ones (and way more fun to paint!)

If you've been intimidated by painting water or stormy skies, this is a solid way to jump in. The energy of the scene means you don't have to be super precise - you just need to capture that wild, rough feeling. And honestly? Sometimes, it's way easier than trying to paint calm, glassy water.
