If you've dealt with IP addresses at all, you will know that most IP address and subnet mask combinations use a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0. But why is that? It's not because of what network devices need, but it is primarily to help us as humans more easily deal with IP addressing schemes. In this video, I'll explain the reason behind this development for IPv4.
