A young bat has lost its mother! Waiting for mummy!
In the afternoon we found a junior bat on the terrace. It looked thin and starved and was covered with mites. At first we were at a loss what to do.
We have read that it can happen that a bat loses its child during flight. This is because the baby sucks and drinks milk during the flight and can lose its hold on the mother's body. Usually next day at dusk the child starts calling and the mother comes to fetch it.
We prepared a pick-up spot at a certain height, safe from cats. We put a pet bottle with warm water in a bowl and put a sock over it.
However, this young bat was severely weakened. And, mummy didn’t come!
Next day, the young bat was given some fennel tea and then we took it to an animal care station. Hopefully it will survive!
