Digital Storytelling | Khalid Kashat
Khalid Kashat came to the United States in 1979, and he kept his Chaldean heritage alive by teaching his children about their roots, reading books by Samuel Noah Kramer (an expert in Sumerian history and language), and for over 30 years, keeping a four-acre farm that resembles that of his ancestral land in Telkeppe. Through his research, he even learned of a cousin who had emigrated to Mexico, and he traveled there to meet his cousin's family in person.
These interviews were conducted in the modern Aramaic language, in the Chaldean dialect, also known as Sureth, and sparingly in Arabic. They were translated and subtitled in English.
