Sana Shamoun was seventeen years old when she got engaged and came to America from Baghdad. Three months later, the war between Iraq and Iran started. She lived in Baghdad at a time where she didn’t witness problems but when she visited years later, she saw the war and sanctions had caused people to be bitter. Sana is a big advocate of women working, against all odds.

These interviews were conducted in 2021 in the modern Aramaic language, in the Chaldean dialect, also known as Sureth, and sparingly in Arabic and were translated and subtitled in English.

Filmed and edited by Michael Nafso.
