Strange Spider Wasp Behavior
#wasp #entomology #pompilidae Spider wasps are a species of Hyminoptera (Wasps, bees, ants and sawfly) might look scary but they are probably the friendliest wasp out there. This video has two different times where the wasps were communicating through sound. I rapid, high pitched buzzing sound. It's pretty cool and I assume it is done by stridulating their abdomens. The first clip has two Organ pipe wasps communicating this way, but the second clip is another species of pompilidae making very similar noises but this one is all by itself. Really not sure what it is doing. The wasp is very strong and it tosses rocks aside like they weigh nothing.
