How to use Canva 2017 an overview tutorial on canva.com a free and simple way to create stunning visual graphics
Hi Paul here from PRwilson Media your social media personal trainer. Do you ever struggle trying to get your cover photo to fit properly on social media - it just doesn't look right. You are wondering how people add text and want to be able to put things like that on there. Here's the solution. Canva.com and it's absolutely free to use.
Here we go
So I'm logged in and you can see there the big green button. Create a design. So let's do that. So you've got some popular design types to choose from. And notice the px. So 800 px by 800px that's Pixels so they are properly sized for the various different platforms.
So Facebook posts should be that size, something for A4, cards they are the popular types. And look, you can use custom dimensions so you can say exactly how much width how much height in pixels and then you just say design.
So what you could do and Ii'd recommend this, is to look up the right sizing for particular platforms.
Now most of the templates are on there like Twitter, Facebook etc but I've found a very good resource is constant contact. If you search for social media cheat sheet here's the 2017 version . And essentially there's an infographic that says - for Facebook the different types. They are all different sizing, very inconvenient for the average user to try and work out but this would certainly help.
So you could put that into the custom dimensions here on canva. So this is what we've got . We've got some different layouts we could choose from. There would be a split with 2 different pictures, but we'll just go for the basic one. And then we can add some text , you can add a heading, and subheading and all the other parts of it. You can change colours. And this is the bit where you can get your own material in there. So you've uploaded some pictures. So I've got some here, I've previously used and you'd be able to put them in there. Obviously that's a full sized thing, but you could just have it there as a logo. And it would sit over the picture. I'm not the world's greatest graphic designer by any stretch of the imagination but I've just found it so easy to get the content produced in the size I want , the simplest way . I've got all sorts of previous examples I can go back to , if I just go to All your designs you can see the kinds of things that I've used it for. So we've got at a very simple level you've got the thumbnails I use for the videos that you may have seen for this YouTube video. You've got a Facebook event cover, so that fits around and you know that the picture is going to be somewhere here. And so you can play around with these things and make sure they fit properly, and include your branding, that represents what you are about.
So that's canva.com lots more to explore we'll have some more videos on this on particular features but I just wanted to show you how easy it is to get on there and start using it properly.
