Hello and welcome! In this video I will be making a small pestle and mortar from oak on the woodturning lathe. This is a great project for a beginner, combining both spindle and bowl turning techniques in one piece.
Shaped and sanded, the pestle and the inside of the mortar where burnished with wood shavings. This burnishing process generates heat, rubbing away the soft cells and exposing the harder cells which do not absorb stains or finishes but has a shiny finished appearance.
