Hello and welcome, first of all I would like to give a huge thank you to all of my watchers and subscribers! When I started making these videos, to have 10 uploads seemed such a long way away and here we are, just over 2 and a half years later, upload 100!! Thank you for all of your support over the last few years, it really means a lot! Right, let's get on with it.
In this video I will be using a woodturning lathe to make a square bowl with my first piece Olive wood in the workshop.
Initially marked up and mounted between centres on a drive spur to shape the underside and form a tenon which will later be removed.
Once the piece was flipped around on the tenon, I removed the middle of the bowl, hand sanded to avoid getting caught by one of the corners while it was turning, sandpaper on a flat block for the edges then cleaned with denatured alcohol.
To remove the tenon and form the foot of the bowl I made a simple jam chuck by mounting a waste block, adding a piece of rubber underlay for grip and a paper towel to help prevent the chuck marking the bowl.
After reaching the desired shape it was taken off the lathe, tidied with a chisel, a little more hand sanding and finally a flaxseed (raw linseed oil) finish.
As always, thank you so much for watching! Please feel free to leave a comment on what you liked or disliked. If you're new here and you enjoyed this, please consider subscribing to my channel. If you have been here before, then thank you for your continued support, it means a lot!
