Effusion and Gas Leaks || Graham's Law
Effusion is the process during which a gas escapes from a container through a hole of a diameter much smaller than the mean free path of the molecules. The gas leaks through the hole due to the pressure difference between the container and the exterior. The effusion laws were first discovered by Scottish chemist Thomas Graham (1805–1869), who found experimentally that the rate of effusion of a gas is inversely proportional to the square root of the mass of its particles (i.e., or square root of the density of the gas).
