📌 What is the Strut Buckling Unit, "MFLT", and how does it work?
The Strut Buckling Unit, "MFLT", is designed to demonstrate the phenomenon of buckling in slender structures subjected to compression. Buckling is a type of structural instability where long, slender columns collapse under a compressive load before reaching their critical stress level.
The MFLT unit allows users to calculate the critical buckling load under different end fixation conditions, making it ideal for studying structural stability.
The unit is equipped to study the buckling behavior of struts of varying lengths, ranging from 300 mm to 625 mm. It supports three different end conditions:
-Pin-joined at both ends.
-Rigidly fixed at both ends.
-One end pinned and the other fixed.
To ensure accurate measurement of the compression force, the MFLT is equipped with a differential screw mechanism for controlled compression and an elastic ring system to measure deformation. The deformation is recorded on a dial gauge, providing a direct relationship between force and deformation, which helps calculate the critical buckling load.
