Clindamycin, Acne, Ribosome, Infection, Bacteria, Cryogenic electron microscopy
The binding site of clindamycin in the ribosome of Cutibacterium acnes. Clindamycin inhibits peptide bond formation by interfering with the proper orientation of the aminoacyl moiety of the A-site tRNA. It binds at the beginning of the nascent peptide exit tunnel of the 50S ribosomal subunit close to the peptidyl-transferase center through a nexus of direct and water-mediated hydrogen bonds with the 23S rRNA.
