The National Medical Director of Oftalvist Clinics, Dr. Pedro Tañá, gives us the answer to this question so frequent in patients who have decided to undergo lasik refractive surgery and who suffer from keratoconus.
Can I have a lasik surgery if I have a keratoconus?
Dr. Tañá: patients with keratoconus have two pathologies. The first is a structural weakness of the cornea that prevents any refractive surgery on the cornea and an astigmatism that may be more or less irregular.
If the visual quality with graduation is good, one can operate with myopia and astigmatism by placing an intraocular lens or ICL, a reversible technique that has advantages over the Lasik. In these patients it would be indicated.
