The National Medical Director of Oftalvist Clinics, Dr. Pedro Tañá, explains in detail what refractive surgery consists of to correct myopia, hyperopia and/or astigmatism with the 100% laser lasik technique.
What is refractive surgery?
Dr. Pedro Tañá: What corneal refractive surgery proposes is carving, modifying, molding the curvature of the cornea.
Let us remember that a normal cornea has between 42, 46, 47 diopters of dioptric power and then what we try to do is flatten the entire cornea, curve the center or carve it symmetrically to correct astigmatism.
This can be done through surface surgery or through a LASIK technique, carving a previous flap that we recommend should always be done with femtosecond, and in the thickness of the cornea, do this refractive carving using an excimer laser.
