The National Medical Director of Oftalvist Clinics, Dr. Pedro Tañá Rivero explains in this video what are the preoperative tests in laser refractive surgery.
How are the preoperative tests for lasik surgery?
Dr. Pedro Tañá: preoperatively, for laser refractive surgery, we have to determine on the one hand the normality of the cornea structure and we do that with devices, topographers that measure the anterior and posterior aspects of the cornea and we have We determine the thickness structure of that cornea and we do it with what we call pachymeters that determine the thickness in not one but in all points of the cornea.
Regardless of this, we have to assess the visual acuity, the previous visual quality with tests like preoperative aberrometers or as a sensitivity test and we have to determine the normality in the quantity and quality of the patient's tear since the side effect of the dry eye is very frequent and depending on this quantity and preoperative quality, the patient should be warned of the discomfort in the postoperative period.
