Soft soil problems are common in soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering. Engineering structures built on such soils experience differential settlements and deform, causing significant economic loss and delays in civil engineering projects. It may take a very long time to consolidate soft clay mass, which may not be acceptable for civil engineering and construction projects. Prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) or wick drains can provide an alternative solution that would significantly decrease the process of consolidation. This video explains how to estimate the time of consolidation when PVDs are installed in soil mass in a square or triangular pattern with different spacing. #education #engineering #geotechnicalengineering #soilmechanics #civilengineering
