Downscaling Chronicles 4: DExx OSSC Pro DE10 addon (Mister FPGA). 720p and 480p to 240p and 480i
The Dexx-vd_isl by the ingenious creator Marqs is the little brother to the OSSC Pro. The DE-10 Nano was popularised by the Mister FPGA project, and pairing the Dexx to this board opens up scaling and line multiplying capabilities that surpass the original Open Source Scan Converter. Particularly, the downscaling function scales down 720p and 480p to 480i and 240p. This is achieved by a line deletion method, which works wonders for games that were drawn in 240p and then upscaled, such as Sonic Mania. In my search for the ideal downscaler to pair with a Widescreen CRT, I test to see if line deletion is the best way to downscale any retro-inspired content to 15KHz. But will it trump my go-to downscaler (so far), the Corio2 TVOne 750?
This is also a brief setup guide for the GPIO1 configuration to retain the DE-10’s SDRAM for dual booting into Mister FPGA by changing the micro sd card.
CORRECTIONS: UNZIP THE FIRMWARE AND FLASH THE .img FILE, NOT THE ZIP FILE. Also, there is no GPIO2 on the DE-10 that I was referring to, this is called GPIO-0.
