How To Spot A Tech Support Scam
You’re surfing the web on your computer.
You get a pop-up with a blue screen.
The pop-up says call a toll-free number, immediately.
You will lose your data if ignored.
THIS IS A SCAM
If you call the toll free number,
Someone may:
Ask for remote access to your computer
Offer to run a test for any problems
Offer to fix the issue for a service fee
Install malware to take your private information.
They’ll offer you:
Software you can get anywhere, or
Solutions to problems that don’t exist
What can you do?
If you get a:
pop-up,
phone call,
spam email or
any other urgent message about a virus
Stop!
Don’t click on any links
Don’t call a phone number
Don’t send any money.
Don’t give anyone control of your computer.
