Today we’re visiting the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
The design of the building is inspired by an African crown.
The oculus outside the museum acts as a beacon and lights up at night.
Sixty percent of the museum is underground.
Here's the Oprah Winfrey Theater, one of the museum’s theaters.
Here' we’re at the history gallery. The idea is that the lower in the museum you go, the further you go back in history.
The museum features a segregated train in one of its exhibits.
As you go down the elevator you travel through different eras of U.S. history

And here's a secret backstage door in the theater.
The exhibit on the Civil Rights Movement ends with Obama’s inauguration.
This is President Obama’s section which includes newspaper clippings and memorabilia from the Obama years in office.
Now we're in one of the biggest elevators in the Smithsonian system. It's used to transport large exhibit items such as Chuck Berry's Cadillac.
The Taking the Stage exhibit features all kinds of art, where a lot of musicians are featured.
There are many quotes displayed on the walls in this museum. This is one from Oprah: "I want to use television to not only entertain, but to help people live better lives.” -
Does the headdress of this statue look familiar?
The design of the building is based on this African crown which looks like a caved in square.
It symbolizes reaching the sky.
This is a view of the National Mall and the Lincoln Memorial where the March on Washington took place.
The building creates specific views in its facade. Here is the White House.
